Although, some will argue strongly that winter is when the Cove is the most beautiful. Activities will be more limited, but like everything in winter they have their own unique charm. Horseback riding isn’t available in the winter, but an intimate winter drive might be on the agenda instead. The 11-mile loop that is so dearly loved is a sight to behold in the winter, and can take you anywhere from 2 hours to 4 or more, depending on you. Getting out of the car, braving the cold and hiking is always an option.

Spring

From early May until late September the Cades Cove loop road is closed to automobile traffic on Wednesday and Saturday mornings until 10:00 a.m. Exploring the Cades Cove by bicycle is a great idea during the spring. You can post your bike on a tree and sit surrounded by beautiful spring flowers. Pack a lunch and take your time. There’s a lot of beauty in the springtime to take in.

Summer

Summer in Cades Cove is filled with wildflowers and wildlife. Herds of horses will still your heart, and flocks of turkeys will lift your spirits. While summertime is one of the most beautiful times of year for the Cove, it is also a lot of people’s most favorite time to visit. So, a larger amount of traffic should be expected. A good way to avoid traffic frustrations is to explore the Cove by bike. It really is a beautiful and stress free way to experience the beauty of the Cove during summertime.

Fall

Who doesn’t love the colors of fall? The Cove is so spectacular this time of year. You can see the land preparing itself for the winter. The cool breezes are welcomed gift if you are hiking, or riding a bike around the Cove. The summer is beautiful, but the heat can come with its own restrictions for some.

Regardless of when you decide to visit Cades Cove, it will present you with a breathtaking scenery.
